Art lecture
March 3, 2019 , 11:30 am
A lecture, “Looted Art Rediscovered: The Gurlitt Find,” will be presented by art historian Vivian Gordon at Congregation B’nai Israel in Rumson at 11:30 a.m.
Several years ago, German police stopped Cornelius Gurlitt at the border and discovered a secret stash of art in his trunk. Later they raided his Munich apartment and found over a thousand looted artworks. The hidden treasures were traced to his father, Hildebrand Gurlitt, a war profiteer and known art dealer for the Nazis. Gordon tells the story of this find and illustrates her talk with slides of works by Cezanne, Monet, Renoir, Kandinsky, and others.
This program is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served. RSVP to Emilie Kovit-Meyer at emilie.kovit-meyer@cbirumson.org or
