Revolution Along the Raritan and Halloween on the Hill

FreeOn Saturday, October 27th from 10am-6pm and Sunday, October 28th from 10am-4pm experience the Revolution Along the Raritan as Crown and Continental forces take over East Jersey Old Town Village. There will be American and British camps where you can see how soldiers and civilian camp followers lived. Witness a tactical weapons demonstration to see the strategies and arms of the Revolutionary War firsthand.
See colonial activities such as blacksmithing, open pit cooking, stone carving, spinning, and more. Listen to colonial era music. Watch the `People of the Brigade’ fashion show and learn about colonial attire. Children will enjoy wooden musket drills and other activities. Visit Suttlers’ Row to purchase handmade colonial era goods.
Food trucks will be on site to feed hungry visitors.
Also, on October 27, 2018, experience Halloween on the Hill at the Cornelius Low House. At 6pm and 8pm travel back in time with the family-friendly fun of a Victorian magic-lantern show – the kind of show that led to the movies! Stories, comedy and outrageous songs – all dramatized on-screen by a live showman, a singer/pianist, and accompanied by audience participation. “A living national treasure!”- NPR.
At 7pm see Neill Hartley of the American Historical Theatre in Ichabod Crane: Washington Irving and the Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Neill Hartley as Washington Irving, the father of the American short story, brings you into his world; introducing you to his work, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, the most famous short story ever written. The literary lion narrates his tale and then enters his story, becoming his alter ego, Ichabod Crane. This portion of the program is funded by the New Jersey Council for the Humanities.
From 6pm-9pm stop in the children’s craft tent to create a seasonal keepsake.
Parking and admission are free for both events.
Free shuttles provided to transport visitors between East Jersey Old Town Village and the Cornelius Low.
