Shabbat Speaker Lior Sternfeld: Iranian Jews in the 20th Century

September 18, 2019 , 7:30 pm

Free

On Friday, October 18 at Neve Shalom’s 7:30 pm service, guest speaker Lior Sternfeld, Assistant Professor of History and Jewish Studies at Penn State University, will be talking about Iranian Jews in the 20th Century. The Jews of Iran in the Twentieth Century held many important positions, created successful businesses, and maintained a vibrant culture prior to the Iranian Revolution in 1979. Many former Persian Jews live in the United States, particularly in Los Angeles. Dr.Sternfeld is a social historian of the modern Middle East with particular interests in Jewish (and other minorities’) histories of the region. He is the author of “Between Iran and Zion: Jewish Histories of Twentieth-Century Iran”.

Refreshments will be served and there will be time for questions and answers. Neve Shalom is pleased to bring high quality speakers on topics of Jewish interest to Shabbat services thanks to the generosity of Gilbert and Claudie Hayat.
