“Lyrical Abstraction,” an exhibit featuring works by 12 Monmouth County painters, is on view at the Grant Avenue Gallery at the Axelrod Performing Arts Center in Deal through Feb. 28.

A Meet the Artists reception will be held on Saturday, Nov. 5, at 7 p.m., prior to the APAC performance of the musical Billy Elliott.

The participating artists are Dawn DiCicco (Middletown), Shari Epstein (Long Branch), Johanna Ericson (Atlantic Highlands), Thomas Farawell (West Long Branch), Mercedes Farrugia (Freehold), Nancy Karpf (Freehold), James Kent (Oceanport), Wayne Lerman (Red Bank), Lorraine Madsen (Wall), Dana McKay (Eatontown), Leona Tenebruso-Shultes (Lincroft), and Karen Starrett (Ocean).

The artists are all part of the Lyrical Abstract Expressionism painting class held at the Guild of Creative Art in Shrewsbury, which has been led by James Kent since 2005. “This exhibit showcases the unique and diverse styles of 12 artists whose paintings explore various avenues of abstraction,” said Kent. Their works are “non-objective and non-representational, which leaves the final interpretation of the paintings’ content and meaning up to the viewer.”

The gallery is open during show performances or by appointment. Contact 732-858-8106 or visit axelrodartscenter.com.
