The Chabad Center of Northwest NJ will hold 19 menorah lightings to illuminate the greater communities of Northwest New Jersey during Chanukah. It also will host other programs, including ceremonies and celebrations at local nursing homes and senior centers, which will include music, hot latkes, donuts, Chanukah gelt, and dreidels.
“The lessons of Chanukah give powerful insight into handling the challenges of everyday life, especially in the wake of the devastating tragedy in Pittsburgh,” Rabbi Mordechai Baumgarten, the Chabad Center of Northwest NJ’s program director, said. “A primary lesson of the holiday is: When you see darkness, shed light, because just a little light will eliminate so much darkness! Acts of kindness, joy, pleasant dispositions or an assuring word are godly conduits which give all us the inner strength to conquer adverse circumstances. As in the story of Chanukah, it all starts with one light.”
