On September 11, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey held a memorial ceremony at the headquarters of Newark Liberty International Airport. Sarah McCain, the general manager of New Jersey airports at the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey, ran the program. Rabbi Mordechai Kanelsky, Bris Avrohom’s executive director, gave the invocation.

“As we commemorate the lives of more than 3,000 innocent people who perished on 9/11, it is our duty to do something in their memory,” Rabbi Kanelsky said. He suggested that as everyone gets up every morning, they “should say thank you to God and show gratitude for having been granted another day. We should take advantage and use our time well to concentrate on doing good deeds to help one another.

“Especially now, before the Jewish New Year, we should always remember how grateful we must be to God.”

Then Rabbi Avremy Kanelsky, the director of Bris Avrohom’s information stand at Newark Airport, blew the shofar as a preparation for Rosh Hashanah and gave honey to the Port Authority executives, the chief of police, and terminal managers.
