A dud of an article

I am appalled that the New Jersey Jewish News chose to run an article glorifying the B.J. Alan Company, importer and wholesaler of fireworks that are sold to the general public (“Jewish sparklers light up the fourth,” July 1). Each year many individuals are injured while “using” fireworks. It was noted in response to safety concerns, this company is “one of the founders of American Standards and Fireworks Laboratory,” a consumer safety group. In fact, the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s website “estimates that in 2008 about 7,000 people were treated in hospital emergency rooms for injuries associated with fireworks.” Such products are not consistent with Jewish values that are promoted in the NJJN and such a company should not be profiled in your publication.
