A moving Shabbat at LifeTown
On June 28, Friendship Circle’s LifeTown in Livingston hosted Fabulous Friday Night. The program, which drew 250 people, was in memory of Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson, the Lubavitcher rebbe whose 30th yahrzeit is marked this year, and whose inspirational leadership led to the creation of Friendship Circle and LifeTown. The program also was dedicated in memory of Barbara Zinbarg, one of the organization’s cherished volunteers, who brought all who knew her so much light.
Sunflower centerpieces, freshly baked challahs, and salads were on the tables. Guests greeted one another, embraced those new to the organization, and took part in a community lighting of Shabbat candles. Speakers included Israeli media personality and lecturer Sivan Rahav-Meir and Nova Festival attack survivor Tomer Meir.
Fireflies illuminating the night sky were released at the end of the program as a send-off — a light refusing to be dimmed.
