Abe Gaynes

Abe Gaynes, 97, of Atlanta died Sept. 17, 2019. The son of Benjamin and Betty Ginsky, he was born in Odessa, Ukraine, and was raised in Newark and Irvington. He lived in Millburn for 35 years before retiring to Boca Raton, and then Delray Beach, Fla., moving in 2009 to Atlanta.

Mr. Gaynes was the owner of Red Star Paint and Wallpaper in Irvington for over 20 years.

He graduated from Irvington High School.

He was a member of an anti-artillery unit in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He enjoyed playing tennis for 40 years.

Predeceased by his wife, Yolanda, he is survived by his son, Bruce (Shelley); his daughter, Leslie (Richard) Gelfond; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services were held Sept. 20 with arrangements by Dressler’s Jewish Funeral Care, Atlanta. Memorial contributions may be made to Weinstein Hospice in Atlanta or The Michael J. Fox Foundation.
