Albert Lechter

Albert N. Lechter, 89, of Boca Raton, Fla., died Nov. 6, 2017. He lived in Livingston for many years.

Mr. Lechter was the founder of Lechters Housewares, the national chain of kitchen-supply stores.

He attended Tulane University School of Business. In 1975, he founded the chain, which expanded to more than 500 stores nationwide and was publicly traded in 1989.

He was a supporter of many philanthropic causes, including Tulane University, Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest NJ, and, in Livingston, Temple Beth Shalom, Newark Academy, and Saint Barnabas Medical Center.

He is survived by his daughters, Robin Lechter Frank (Ronald) and Janice Einsbruch (Alan); and four grandchildren, Alex, David, Josh, and Danielle. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
