Alvin Pollock

Alvin S. Pollock, 89, of Mountainside died Aug. 31, 2013. Born in Kittanning, Pa., he also resided in Bayonne, Philadelphia, and Cranford.

Mr. Pollock was a chemical engineer with Mobil Chemical Company, a division of Mobil Oil, and retired as vice president after 22 years. In 1985, after 38 years in the industry, he began a new career and worked more than two decades as a certified financial planner in a business he and his wife Mildred founded, Pollock Planning Associates. The business is now run by his son, Steve.

He attended Carnegie Tech, where he was a lettered tennis player, and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and earned a master’s degree from Columbia University.

He served in the U.S. Navy as an ensign in the Pacific Theater.

He played many years of golf at Shackamaxon Country Club. He served as a member of the boards of Temple Beth El of Cranford and Temple Emanu-El of Westfield and was committed to supporting the Jewish community.

Predeceased by his son Bruce (Maureen), he is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mildred; his son, Steve (Gail) of Collingswood; his daughter, Ada (Alan) of Milton, Mass.; a brother, Stanley of Pittsburgh; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services were held Sept. 3 with arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union. Memorial contributions may be made to Jewish Family Service or Temple Emanu-El.
