Ann Colman

Ann A. Colman of Florham Park, 95, died Dec. 25, 2011. She was born and grew up in Lakewood, and spent summers down the shore in Belmar. She lived briefly in Irvington and then in West Orange for 40 years before moving to Florham Park 30 years ago.

Mrs. Colman was a high school English teacher at Orange High School for 24 years, where she was chosen by her peers as teacher of the year three times.

She earned her BA degree from New Jersey College for Women (Douglass College) and her MA from Rutgers University.

She was a member of Temple B’nai Abraham, Livingston. She was a life member of National Council of Jewish Women, where she had served as president of the Essex County Section and often led their book discussions, and of Hadassah. She had also been a member and religious school teacher at Temple Sharey  Tefilo-Israel in South Orange.

Predeceased by her husband, Milton H., in 1975, she is survived by two sons, Allan of California and Stuart of Georgia; her daughter, Ellen Colman Hefter of New Jersey; a brother, Clement Alpert; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Services were held Dec. 28 with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston. Memorial contributions may be made to the Milton and Ann Colman Israel Scholarship Fund at Temple B’nai Abraham.
