Arnold Topilow
Arnold Topilow, 94, of Hillside died Nov. 8, 2017.
Dr. Topilow was in private clinical practice in ophthalmic surgery in Bayonne from 1951 until his retirement in 1996. Throughout his career, he served as attending surgeon at The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary and as chief of ophthalmology at Bayonne Hospital.
He earned his M.D. in 1946 from New York University College of Medicine. He interned at Morrisania City Hospital, New York City, 1946-47.
He served in the U.S. Army, 1947-49, attaining the rank of captain in the Medical Corps.
He served his ophthalmology residency at Gallinger Hospital, Washington, D.C., 1949-51. He was certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology in 1952. He became a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology in 1955 and the American College of Surgeons in 1969.
Predeceased by his wife, Shirley; a son, Harvey; and a daughter, Joyce, he is survived by a son, Edmund of Short Hills; two sisters, Dorothy of Hillside and Helen of Florida; and five grandchildren.
Services were held Nov. 12 with arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union.
