Arthur Schatten
Arthur L. Schatten, 75, of West Orange died Aug. 31, 2012. He was born and raised in Passaic.
Mr. Schatten spent more than 35 years practicing law with his partner Betsy Locker at their firm Schatten & Locker, Esqs. He was a member of the New York and New Jersey state bars and the Union County and Summit bar associations.
He graduated from Columbia College in 1959 with a BA in American history and he received his JD in 1964 from Columbia University School of Law.
He was an active member of the Summit Lions Club, serving as its president from 1975 to 1976. He was also active in the local Democratic Party and at Temple B’nai Abraham, Livingston. He was a member of Maplewood Country Club, where he was an avid golfer.
He was commissioned as a naval Ensign and served two years as a deck officer on the USS Independence, CVA-62, achieving the rank of Lieutenant, Junior Grade.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Florence; his son, Billy; a sister, Barbara; and three grandchildren.
Services were held Sept. 4 with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rabbi’s Discretionary Fund at Temple B’nai Abraham or the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
