Avi Kempinski
Avi Kempinski, 53, of Hays, Kansas, died May 13, 2012. He lived in Union and moved to Hays six years ago.
Dr. Kempinski was associate professor of German in the Department of Modern Languages, Fort Hays State University, Kansas.
One of his professional accomplishments was the development of an academic partnership with the University of Duisburg-Essen, Germany, which includes both student and faculty exchanges.
Predeceased by his mother, Eva, in February, and his father, David, in 2010, he is survived by his brother, Sol; his sister, Gilda; four nieces; and a nephew.
Services were held May 15 with arrangements by AM Israel Mortuary, San Diego. Memorial contributions may be made to Avi Kempinski Memorial Scholarship Fund at the Jewish Community Foundation, 4950 Murphy Canyon Road, San Diego, CA 92123, which provides scholarships to students traveling to Europe on study and cultural exchanges.
