Barbara Scheiner

Barbara Scheiner, 83, of West Orange died on Nov. 2, 2017. Born in Brooklyn, she previously lived in Verona and West Orange. 

Mrs. Scheiner was trained as a lab technician and phlebotomist, then later earned a degree in health administration from Montclair State University, from which she graduated summa cum laude. In 1981, she joined the staff at the Early School at Temple B’nai Abraham in Livingston, where she was a teacher for 27 years, retiring at the age of 73.

She was an active member of Temple Sholom of West Essex in Cedar Grove, where she was instrumental in developing the first early childhood program and cochaired the membership committee.

She loved the visual and performing arts and was a sculptor working in marble.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Stan; her children, Jennifer Shapiro (Ben), Laura, and Gary (Sue); her siblings, Eileen Dorin and James Dorin; and her grandchildren, Zachary, Rebecca, Meredith, and Lindsey.

Services were held Nov. 3 at Bernheim Apter Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel in Livingston.
