Be positive

I’m glad to see that “Rutgers rejects call for boycott of Israel” (Jan. 2). This is a news story that the Jewish public needs to respond to, not sit back on. My suggestion would be to e-mail the universities directly which have rejected the American Studies Association boycott of Israel. Congratulate them on taking a positive stand in their support of Israeli universities’ policies, and academic programs. Israeli universities achieve academic excellence. Education is a Jewish value, a strong value.

The Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations lists addresses, phone numbers, and e-mails of each university involved on its website, conferenceofpresidents.org. Be positive. Contact the universities; let them know you support them for rejecting the boycott.

Rather than contact the ASA to say something negative, ignore them, as though they weren’t even there.
