Bernard Turiel
Bernard Turiel, 83, of Westfield died Oct. 3, 2018. He was born in Rhodes, Greece and lived in Manhattan and Washington, D.C., before moving to Westfield in 1967.
Mr. Turiel survived the Nazi occupation of Rhodes thanks to a righteous man who rescued the Turiel family from deportation to Auschwitz. He came to the U.S., with his parents and brother, in 1946.
He was an attorney in private practice in New York City and Woodbridge for over 50 years.
Mr. Turiel graduated from Stuyvesant High School in 1952 and New York University in 1956 from where he received his law degree in 1959 and his LLM in 1964.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lynn; two daughters, Lisa (Jonathan Israel) of Westfield and Karen (Adam Klein) of Glenwood, Md.; a brother, Elliot (Judy) Turiel; and six grandchildren.
Services were held Oct. 5 with arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union.
