Betty Jonas
Betty Jonas (Tisch-Lewis) of West Orange died Aug. 5, 2012. Born and raised in Brooklyn, she lived in Manhattan after her marriage and later moved to New Jersey. She was the great-granddaughter of Pauline Bierman, the namesake of the Charles and Pauline Bierman Home.
Mrs. Jonas worked for the New Friends of Music in Carnegie Hall. She was employed by the Essex County Park Commission until her retirement in 1981.
She was a volunteer in Braille writing and an active member of the National Council of Jewish Women and the WISH Foundation.
Predeceased by her husband, Robert, in 1995, she is survived by her son, Andrew of Springfield; a sister, Gertrude Margel of Baltimore; and three grandsons.
Services were held Aug. 7 with arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union. Memorial contributions may be made to Daughters of Israel, 1155 Pleasant Valley Way, West Orange, NJ 07052; or Care Alternative Hospice.
