Burton Sebold
Burton Walter Sebold, 84, of Livingston died Nov. 2, 2018. He was born and raised in Newark and lived in Livingston since 1962.
After a long corporate career at Wakefern Food Corp., Mr. Sebold went on to become the director of the Economic Development Corp. of Essex County, and then served as the county’s head of Vendor Administration until retirement.
He graduated from Weequahic High School in Newark in 1952 and received his bachelor’s degree from Upsala College in 1959.
He was a Korean War veteran, serving for two years with the U.S. Army.
Active in athletics throughout his life, he played basketball, football and baseball in recreational leagues in Newark and Livingston.
A staunch Democrat, he was elected to the Livingston Democratic County Committee in 1972, where he served until his death. During the course of his political career, he attended five national Democratic conventions. He also served for many years on the Livingston Recreation Advisory Committee.
He is survived by his wife, Essex County Freeholder Patricia Sebold (Meltzer); his son, Howard (Shayna); his daughter, Risa (Bruce) Schreiber; and five grandchildren.
Services were held Nov. 4 with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston.
