Carol Belt
Carol Forer Belt, 77, of Yardley, Pa., died Jan. 29, 2018.
An arts advocate and leader in arts education, Mrs. Belt started her career as an art teacher to local Trenton students when she was a teenager. She continued on to study dance and the visual arts at Rhode Island School of Design, and got her first teaching job as an art teacher in the Trenton school system.
Career highlights included creating an arts curriculum for the Trenton schools, where she ran the district’s Art Department, serving as a board member of NJ State Council for the Arts, and as a board member for Young Audiences of NJ. She was awarded Kennedy Center Honors for her work in keeping the arts alive in schools.
She also helped to establish and maintain the Trenton Educational Dance Institute (TEDI), a program that supported dance and programing for thousands of Trenton public school students over the past 25 years.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Barry; two sons, David (Antonia) and Jonny (Polly Smail); and four grandchildren.
Services were held Feb. 2 with arrangements by Orland’s Ewing Memorial Chapel, Ewing; a celebration of her life in the arts will be held in May. Memorial contributions may be made to bcfny.org/carol-belt-memorial-fund.
