Carol Schlesinger
Carol L. Schlesinger, 85, died Jan. 9, 2013, in West Orange. She was a former 56-year resident of Livingston.
Mrs. Schlesinger was a lifelong advocate for children, serving as a special education teacher, assistant supervisor of tutors in the Livingston school system, leader of communications workshops, vice chair of Livingston Youth Services Bureau, a member of NJ Supreme Court Committee on the Family Court, ESL teacher for Soviet Jewish immigrant children, and a representative to the NJ State Advisory Council, Child Placement Review Executive Committee. She was a freelance writer of articles that appeared in The New York Times, Ladies’ Home Journal, and Cosmopolitan and co-authored Somebody Cares For You, a handbook for foster children.
She was a recipient of the Livingston Annual Women of Achievement Award.
Predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Norman, she is survived by two sons, Robert (Jan) and John (Richard); and a brother, Richard Lieberman.
Services were held Jan. 15 with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston.
