The following synagogues and organizations will hold special programs for Chanukah, which will be celebrated this year from the evening of Sunday, Dec. 22, through Monday, Dec. 30:

B’nai Shalom, West Orange — A Klezmer Kafe featuring the Odessa Klezmer Band directed by Ed Goldberg will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 25, at 6:30 p.m. Chinese food and donuts will be served. Participants are asked to bring menorahs for a community candle-lighting.

Cost is $25 adults, $10 children. For reservations, go to clc.bnaishalom.net.



Chabad of West Orange
— Menorah lightings and celebrations with live music and refreshments will be held on Sunday, Dec. 22, at 6 p.m. at Roseland Borough Hall and Monday, Dec. 23, at 4 p.m. at West Orange Town Hall. Call 973-325-6311 or go to chabadwestorange.com.


Union County Torah Center-Chabad
— A menorah lighting ceremony will be held at the North Avenue train station in Westfield on Sunday, Dec. 22, at 4:30 p.m. A highlight this year is a “Gelt Drop,” in which a fireman will rain down chocolate gelt from atop a fire ladder while children have the opportunity to collect as much chocolate gelt as they can.

Cranford’s Menorah Lighting will take place across from the municipal building near the gazebo on Wednesday, Dec. 26, at 4:30 p.m.

A Chanukah show will be broadcast on Comcast Channel 96 on Sunday, Dec. 22, at 5:30 p.m., and Tuesday, Dec. 24, at 6:30 p.m.

A Family Chanukah Party will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 24, at 6 p.m., featuring a Chanukah dinner with Chinese food and latkes and screening of “The Quarrel.”  A separate movie will be shown for children along with Chanukah crafts and games. Suggested donation is $10 adults, $5 children, with sponsorships available for $180. To register, contact 908-789-5252 or info@torahcenter.org or register online at torahcenter.org.

Chanukah On Ice, featuring the lighting of a menorah in the  center of the rink, will be cosponsored with Chai Center-Chabad of Millburn at the Union Sports Arena in Union on Saturday, Dec. 28, 6:30-8 p.m. Refreshments will be served. Cost is $12, including skates.

YM-YWHA of Union County, Union — A children’s Chanukah program featuring Dr. Shnitzel’s Wacky Science Show will be held on Sunday, Dec. 29, 10 a.m.-noon. Family admission/sponsorships are available. To register, go to uniony.org.
