Celebrating Purim in the community
Purim, which begins at sunset this year on Wednesday, Feb. 28, and ends at sundown on Thursday, March 1 (14th of Adar), celebrates the salvation of the Jewish people in ancient Persia from Haman’s plot to destroy them. The following events will be held at area synagogues and organizations:
Temple B’nai Abraham, Livingston — Purim services and a megillah reading will be held on Feb. 28 at 7 p.m. Call 973-994-2290.
A Purim carnival will be held on Sunday, March 4, 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Activities include hamantaschen baking, games, and inflatables. The cost is $10 in advance, $15 at the door (free for adults and children under 2). RSVP to 973-994-3950 or bsmall@tbanj.org or go to tbanj.org.
B’nai Shalom, West Orange —

Chabad Center of Northwest NJ, Rockaway — A megillah reading, accompanied by an animated Purim video, will be held on Feb. 28 at 6:15 p.m., followed by a Purim celebration.
On March 1, a Grand Family “Purim at the Stadium” celebration will be held at White Meadow Lake Country Club, 100 White Meadow Road, at 5 p.m., preceded by a megillah reading at 4:15. The celebration will include a full-course feast, live band playing Jewish and Israeli music, “halftime show,” and full children’s program; each child in costume will receive a prize. Chabad of SE Morris County, Madison — A Grand Purim Party will be held at 5 p.m. on March 1 at The Madison Hotel, Morristown, featuring a 5 p.m. reading of the megillah and multi-media show, a deluxe buffet dinner, music, a magic show with balloon art, and a parade and prizes for children. Morristown Jewish Center Beit Yisrael — A Purimshpiel will be held on Sunday, Feb. 25, at 11 a.m., followed by lunch, hamantaschen baking, a mitzvah tent, and photo booth. Call 973-538-9292.

Congregation B’nai Israel, Millburn — A Family Purim MegillahStory Telling, carnival and costume parade, and dinner will be held on March 1 at 4:45 p.m. Admission is $5 per child, $10/family for carnival entrance.

Temple Sharey Tefilo-Israel, South Orange — An adults-only Purim party will be held on Feb. 28 at 7 p.m. at The Woodland, Maplewood, featuring a Purimshpiel with the theme, “She Will Rock You.” Snacks and drinks will be served.
