Chanukah at the Port Authority
Bris Avrohom celebrated Chanukah by lighting 140 menorahs throughout New Jersey. Rick Cotton, the executive director of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, lit the menorah at the Oculus at the World Trade Center PATH station, on Chanukah eve.
Mr. Cotton stood before the 9-foot-high menorah and expressed his gratitude and solidarity with the menorah and what it stands for. He talked about the message of Chanukah, how the lights bring people together and how miracles occur. He also thanked Rabbi Mordechai Kanelsky, the executive director of Bris Avrohom, for placing menorahs at close to 50 locations under the Port Authority’s jurisdiction of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
Rabbi Kanelsky gave Mr. Cotton an ornate dreidel from Jerusalem, adorned in Hebrew with Nais Gadol Haya Poh — a great miracle took place here.
Clarelle DeGraffe, the director and general manager of the Port Authority’s Trans-Hudson rail system — that’s PATH — also said how proud she is to have four menorahs placed in locations under her jurisdiction: the World Trade Center, Journal Square in Jersey City, Hoboken, and new this year, Harrison.
