Charles Gross

Charles Alan Gross of Livingston died April 15, 2014. He formerly resided in Boca Raton, Fla., and Short Hills. 

Mr. Gross served as the chairman and CEO of Royal Investments LLC, a closely held investment firm. He also provided ongoing business consulting and interim management services in “C” level positions to businesses in the manufacturing and textile fields. 

Early in his career, he joined his family’s business, Two Guys Department Stores, where he was primarily responsible for its toy department. When Two Guys was sold to Vornado, Inc., he continued on with the company through 1979, serving as the group vice president in charge of five divisions. Afterward, he formulated and became the principal investor in Mall Curtains, Inc., which operated a chain of retail kitchen, bed, and bath boutiques in malls throughout central and northern New Jersey. In 1980, he became president of the Gift Works division of Town and Country Living, Inc., as well as the company’s national sales manager. 

In 1984, he joined his lifelong friend in the manufacturing of bedding products at Hollander Home Fashions, Inc. He was responsible for accelerating the company’s growth and driving its entry into the nation’s largest discount chains, including Walmart, Kmart, and Costco. He retired from the company in 1992. 

He received a bachelor of science in accounting in 1963 from New York University’s Stern School of Business. 

He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam conflict.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara; two sons, Marc J. and Neil L.; and four grandchildren. 

Services were held April 17 with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston.
