Daniel Balk

Daniel Balk, 81, of Old Bridge died April 22, 2011. Born in Brooklyn, he resided there and in Staten Island before moving to Old Bridge four years ago.

During his career, Mr. Balk was the chief engineer for the New York City Housing Authority. He also worked for Flynn Hill Elevator in Queens and was proprietor of Daniel Balk Consulting Firm, PE, PA, in Staten Island.

He was also an adjunct instructor for New York City Community College and associate professor at Pratt Institute in New York.

He was an Army veteran, having served during the Korean Conflict, and was an instructor with the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers at Fort Belvoir, Va. He was a member of the Jewish War Veterans in Naples, Fla.

He was a congregant of Temple Shalom, Naples, and was a member of the City College Alumni Association.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Rhoda Shapiro Balk; two daughters, June Miller of East Brunswick and Joyce Wasserman of Manalapan; and four grandchildren.

Services were held April 24 with arrangements by Mount Sinai Memorial Chapels, East Brunswick. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Parkinson’s Disease Association.
