Deborah Shlossman

Deborah “Debbie” Shlossman, 90, of Boca Raton, Fla., died July 27, 2011. She lived in Bayonne, Maplewood, and Elberon before moving to Boca Raton more than 30 years ago.

Mrs. Shlossman was a kindergarten teacher until her first child was born. Later, she joined the principal’s staff at Columbia High School, Maplewood, to assist with foreign exchange students.

She graduated from New Jersey State Teachers College at Jersey City.

She was actively involved with the PTAs of every school her children attended and served as president of Columbia High School’s PTA. She was a local coordinator for UNICEF for many years. She devoted time to National Council of Jewish Women’s Essex County Section and the sisterhood of Oheb Shalom Congregation, South Orange. In Florida she became one of the founders of Brandeis Women’s Group’s Boca Raton chapter’s Book Store.

She is survived by her husband, Bernard; two daughters, Ronnie Schnoll of Summit and Carol of Waban, Mass.; two sons, Arthur of Summit and Marc of Tempe, Ariz.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services were held July 31 with arrangements by Gutterman Brothers Funeral Directors, Bayonne. Memorial contributions may be made to Brandeis National Committee; Jewish National Fund; Louis and Anne Green Memory and Wellness Center; or Florida Atlantic University.
