Dorothy Carchman
Dorothy Carchman (Pines), 100, of New York City died Dec. 11, 2013. She was born in the Bronx.
Mrs. Carchman served as an assistant to Rabbi Samuel Belkin, later president of Yeshiva University.
She graduated from Hunter College High School and attended Hunter College.
She had a guest appearance on the off-Broadway show, Old Jews Telling Jokes eight months ago.
She was a member of the national board of Junior Hadassah and was the founder and first president of Hadassah’s Irvington chapter and was president of the West Orange and Hallendale (Fla.) chapters of Hadassah. She was a member of the speaker’s bureau of both Hadassah and the Women’s League of United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism. She was also an early and active member of the Zionist Organization of America.
Predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Abraham, she is survived by her daughter, Marion Jacobson (Stanley Schwartz) of New York and West Orange; her son, Philip (JoAnn) of Princeton; six granddaughters; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Services were held Dec. 13 with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston.
