Edythe Scharfstein

Edythe Shore Scharfstein, 91, of Livingston died March 6, 2013. Born in Cambridge, Mass., she lived on the Lower East Side of New York City and in Brooklyn for 40 years before moving to Livingston in 1980.

Mrs. Scharfstein was a teacher, writer, and an editor. Together with her husband, Sol, she authored and edited over a dozen books published by KTAV Publishing House, including Chaveri, Chanukah Surprise, and My First Book of Prayers.

She graduated from Framingham State Teachers College.

Predeceased by her husband, she is survived by two sons, Joel of New York and Alan of Woodcliff Lake; her daughter, Janet of Livingston; and seven grandchildren.

Services were held March 8 with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee.
