Elaine Cohen

Elaine Cohen, 93, of Boynton Beach, Fla., died Oct. 19, 2017. Born in Newark, she lived in Brooklyn and Great Neck, N.Y., before moving to Boynton Beach 17 years ago. 

Mrs. Cohen was the co-owner with her late first husband, Herman Freundlich, of Behrens Pharmacy in Brooklyn, the borough’s first true apothecary pharmacy. After they sold the business she continued to work as a temporary worker through the Temporarily Yours agency of New York City for 15 years. She retired in 2002. 

She attended University of Illinois. 

She was a past PTA president in Brooklyn and was active with Sidney Green Foundation, a charitable foundation working in the psychiatric area. She also volunteered at the Down State Medical Center in Brooklyn.

Predeceased by her first husband of 29 years, and her second husband of 28 years, Jerry Cohen, she is survived by her son, William (Linda) Freundlich of Springfield; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. 

Services were held Oct. 22 with arrangements by Ross’ Shalom Chapels, Springfield.
