Elaine Gebel
Elaine Gebel, 85, of Boca Raton, Fla., died July 14, 2017. Born and raised in Philadelphia, she lived in Morris Plains throughout her marriage before moving full-time to Boca Raton in 2011.
Mrs. Gebel, with three young children, attended night school for over 10 years at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Madison while earning undergraduate and master degrees in education. After completing her education she taught children with learning disabilities in Wharton and then Morris Plains, where she became the district’s learning disabilities consultant, a position she held for many years.
She was active at Morristown Jewish Center Beit Yisrael, where she was president of the sisterhood.
She was a Lion of Judah in Women’s Philanthropy at Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest NJ.
Predeceased by her husband, Daniel, in 2003, she is survived by two daughters, Gail (Steven) Levitt and Nancy Gebel (Jeff Leibal); her son, Richard (Susan); four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services were held July 16 with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston. Memorial contributions may be made to United Jewish Appeal of Greater MetroWest NJ, P.O. Box 929, Whippany, N.J. 07981.
