Eleanor Rice

Eleanor S. Rice, 95, of Manchester, N.H., died Oct. 23, 2017. Born in the Bronx, she moved to Springfield in 1967 before relocating to New Hampshire in 2001. 

Mrs. Rice worked as a teacher for over 30 years, first at Yonkers High School in New York, then in the Cranford public school system, and finally at the Solomon Schechter schools in New Jersey. She retired in 1984. 

She received a B.A. from Hunter College, New York City, and a master’s degree from Columbia University, both in education. 

She was a member and past president of B’nai B’rith Women’s (later Jewish Women International) Springfield chapter and a longtime member and vice president for many years of Temple Beth Ahm Yisrael of Springfield. 

Predeceased by her husband, Harry, she is survived by her son, Alan M. (Alison Rue) of Bedford, N.H.; a sister, Paule Haymes; and two grandchildren. 

Services were held Oct. 24 with arrangements by Ross’ Shalom Chapels, Springfield. Memorial contributions may be made to New Hampshire Association for the Blind or Yiddish Book Center in New Hampshire.
