Ethel Lawner
Ethel G. Lawner, 91, of Westfield died Sept. 27, 2013. Born in Brooklyn, she resided in Jersey City for over 50 years before moving to Westfield.
Dr. Lawner was an internist and specialist in endocrinology. She maintained a private medical practice in Jersey City for 60 years. She also served as the acting chief of endocrinology at Christ Hospital, Jersey City, before retiring six years ago. She also had served as the medical director for the Job Corps Program in Jersey City.
She graduated from the University of North Carolina and New York Medical College,
She was a founding member and first president of the Citizens Committee to Save JFK Boulevard, later known as Citizens Committee of Hudson County. In 2008, she received the Jersey City Legend Award.
Predeceased by her husband, Irving Marshall, and two daughters, Nina Marshall Koontz and Madeline Marshall, she is survived by her daughter, Sydne Marshall (Chazanow Sommer) of South Orange; two sons-in-law, Elliot Sommer and Thomas Koontz; and two grandchildren.
Services were held Sept. 29 with arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union.
