George Greenfield, 90, of Livingston died Jan. 16, 2020. Born and raised in Brooklyn, he lived in West Orange for 61 years before moving to Livingston in 2017.
An engineer, Mr. Greenfield landed his first position with IT&T, and then moved on to companies such as Weston Instruments. A designer of innovative electronic industrial equipment, his career spanned five decades. One of his projects was designing a device that could measure the amount of light available to professional photographers, which earned him a patent.
He graduated from Brooklyn College and earned his master’s degree in electrical engineering.
He led Cub Scout groups at B’nai Shalom and Congregation AABJ&D, both in West Orange, and continued to mentor his successors after relinquishing his position as scout leader.
He was also involved in West Orange town planning, collecting signatures in support of a sound barrier that would eventually reduce the sound level from Rt. 280.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Leah (Klein); his daughter, Julie (Mark) Orenstein; and his son, Jesse (Cindi) Greenfield.
Services were held Jan. 17 with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston. Memorial contributions may be made to any Alzheimer’s, dementia, or stroke research and prevention organization.
