Gertrude Weiss
Gertrude Weiss, 94, of Newton died Jan. 31, 2014. She was formerly of South Orange.
Mrs. Weiss held a career as a social worker for the Essex County Division of Welfare.
She was very politically active when she lived in South Orange, holding the post of Democratic Committeewoman in Essex County.
She obtained her college education on a scholarship granted by New Jersey State Teacher’s College, now known as Kean University.
She was a former member of Temple B’nai Jeshurun, Short Hills.
Predeceased by her husband, Stanley, and a son, Harlan, she is survived by a son, Steven; two daughters, Carol and Alice; a brother, Seymour Freed; and three grandchildren.
Services were held Feb. 4 with arrangements by J.L. Apter Memorial Chapels of Newton.
