Two Union County agencies, the Jewish Community Center of Scotch Plains and the Jewish Educational Center in Elizabeth, united for the “Pack the Truck” initiative to help the Jewish Family Service of Central NJ’s Charlotte Shak Food Pantry. It was part of the JCC’s Giving Tuesday and yielded a collection of several thousand cans and boxes of food and other essentials. The JFSCNJ board, staff, and the constituents it serves were overwhelmed by the generosity of the donations. Students and community members dropped off their donations into a truck parked in the JCC’s parking lot that day; the truck drove to the JFSCNJ Halpern Building in Elizabeth, and middle-school students at Elizabeth’s Jewish Educational Center sorted the donations the next day.
