Harriet Hendel
Harriet Hendel, 86, of Springfield died Nov. 4, 2013. Born in Pultusk, Poland, she survived the Holocaust by fleeing to Siberia in Russia and for a time lived in a displaced persons camp in Fehrenwalde, Germany. She left Germany in 1951 and settled in Brooklyn, where she lived for 53 years until moving to Springfield six years ago.
Mrs. Hendel was a homemaker.
Predeceased by her husband, Harry, and a great-granddaughter, Batya Emunah Czarka, earlier this year, she is survived by her son, Larry of Staten Island; her daughter, Shirley Schwartz of Springfield; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services were held Nov. 6 with arrangements by Ross’ Shalom Chapels, Springfield.
