Harry Sandlaufer
Harry J. Sandlaufer, 96, of Short Hills died March 28, 2018. He was born and raised in Jersey City.
Mr. Sandlaufer owned and operated Municipal Oil for over 60 years.
He was a three-sport letterman at Panzer College.
After graduation from college, he joined the United States Marine Corps to fight in World War II. He was awarded the Bronze Star of Valor for heroics at the Battle of Okinawa, in the conflict known as “Sugarloaf Hill.” He left the Marine Corps with the rank of major.
He was an active member of Jewish War Veterans of Livingston, the Sixth Marine Division association, and JCC MetroWest in West Orange.
Predeceased by his wife of over 60 years, Elaine Newman Sandlaufer, and his son, Douglas Sandlaufer, he is survived by his daughter, Robin Sandlaufer (Terry) Ewert; two sisters, Marian Baron and Shirley Cuttler-Michaelson; three grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
Services were held April 2 with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston. Memorial contributions may be made to Temple Beth El, 2419 Kennedy Blvd., Jersey City, N.J. 07304.
