The Chabad Center of Northwest New Jersey is once again offering shofar blowing for the home- and hospital-bound this Rosh Hashanah. The rabbis and several volunteers from the center are ready, with shofars in hand, to enable people who are unable to attend services to benefit from the mitzvah of shofar. The shofar blowers will walk from the center in White Meadow Lake in Rockaway to destinations as far away as Denville and Mountain Lakes.
“The purpose of the shofar is to arouse people to return to their purest selves,” Rabbi Mordechai Baumgarten, the Chabad center’s program director, said. “The sound of the shofar is also a symbol of hope, freedom and redemption, and we want to share that especially with those that can do with the encouragement.”
