The Heidi Gallery at Jewish Service for the Developmentally Disabled in Livingston is showcasing “Inspirations Abound” in collaboration with Studio Montclair. The installation will be a showcase for artists using many media in JSDD’s WAE Center, its new state-of-the-art facility.

SDD, the 30+ year-old social service agency, and Studio Montclair, a nationwide nonprofit organization highlighting a spectrum of artists, will showcase the exhibition through September 1. The Heidi Gallery is a key component of JSDD’s new WAE Center and administrative home base; it opened in 2021.

“This collaboration with Studio Montclair is a most fitting way to launch our Heidi Gallery,” Linda Press, JSDD’s executive director, said. “The opportunity to feature Studio Montclair’s exhibitors alongside our members truly advances our mission of arts education combined with fostering a fully inclusive community.”

The exhibit brings together artists who work in multiple mediums and have chosen their favorite pieces to be displayed for the opening of Heidi Gallery at JSDD.

JSDD provides assistance to people with developmental disabilities so than can live in the community as independently as possible. The first group home opened in 1989 as a committee of Jewish Federation; in 1996, JSDD became an independent agency. Focused on the abilities and desires of each member, JSDD’s WAE Center opened last year, aiming to embrace humanistic principles to guide each person in building a greater capacity for a full and rich life while helping each member to discover the spark within themselves. The site has more than 8,500 square feet of space, intended to inspire and support innovative programming while meeting the highest standards of safety and accessibility. Studio Montclair, celebrating its 25th year, is an inclusive, nationwide non-profit organization of exhibiting, professional, and emerging artists and others interested in the visual arts.
