Helen M. Solomon (Mandel), 100, of Highland Park died Nov. 25, 2019. Born and raised in Jersey City, she moved to Highland Park in 1945.
Mrs. Solomon worked in a ladies clothing store before meeting and marrying her husband Carl in 1945. She then worked side by side with her husband in the family businesses for 56 years.
She was a graduate of William L. Dickinson High School in Jersey City.
During World War II, she was an ambulance driver with the Red Cross.
A longtime member of Highland Park Conservative Temple-Congregation Anshe Emeth, Hadassah, and the sisterhood, she was involved with many charitable organizations, helping along with her family at the New Brunswick Soup Kitchen during the Thanksgiving holidays.
Predeceased by her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Ruth Susan Solomon; her son, Martin Ted Solomon; a sister, Rhoda Schneider; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services were held Nov. 27 with arrangements by Crabiel Parkwest Funeral Chapel, New Brunswick.
