Herbert B. Manowitz

Herbert B. Manowitz, 90, of Monroe Township died Jan. 25, 2011. Born in Jersey City, he resided in Plainfield and Woodbridge before moving to Monroe 24 years ago.

Prior to retiring in 1988, Mr. Manowitz was a driver for Comet Messenger Service in Woodbridge. Prior to that, he owned the White Front Poultry Market in Jersey City for 30 years.

He was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran, having served from 1942 to 1946.

He was a congregant of the Jewish Congregation of Clearbrook, Monroe. He also served as past president of the Clearbrook Bowling Team and was a member of the Clearbrook Tennis Club.

He is survived by his wife, Terry Zirlin Manowitz; three daughters, Barbara Shaffer of Telluride, Colo., Anita Eigen of Bridgewater, and Lois Manowitz Alston of Tucson, Ariz.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services were held Jan. 30 with arrangements by Mount Sinai Memorial Chapels, East Brunswick. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, New York, NY; or Seeing Eye Inc., Morristown.
