Herman Cooper
Dr. Herman Cooper of Edison died Dec. 26, 2010. He formerly resided in West Caldwell before moving to the NJ Veterans Memorial Home in Menlo Park nearly five years ago.
Dr. Cooper had a dental practice in West Orange for nearly 40 years. Early in his career, he partnered with the township to open a dental clinic for low-income residents, volunteering his services for 14 years.
He was a graduate of Rutgers University and the Maryland College of Dentistry, and completed a residency at Mountainside Hospital in Montclair.
He served in the United States Army during World War II.
He was a member of the American and New Jersey dental associations and the AzureMasada Masonic Lodge. He was also a member of B’nai Shalom, West Orange, for 35 years, and played the violin with the Bloomfield Symphony Orchestra for several years.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Bernice of East Windsor; a son, David of Short Hills; two daughters, Marlene Taub of White Plains, NY, and Robin Filut of Yardley, Pa.; and seven grandchildren.
Services were held Dec. 29 with arrangements by Goldstein Funeral Chapel, Edison. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
