Herman Rich

Herman Joseph Rich, 92, of West Caldwell died June 18, 2019. Born in Newark, he lived in Irvington, Livingston, West Orange, and Florida before moving to West Caldwell five years ago.

Mr. Rich worked as a civil engineer for Herman J. Rich P.E. in Livingston from 1966 through 2006.

He earned a B.S. degree in civil engineering and an M.A. in civil engineering, both from New Jersey Institute of Technology, Newark.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1945 to 1946 as an Electronic Technician’s Mate Third Class. He received the Victory, American Theater, and Asiatic Pacific medals.

He was a member of the board of directors of the Residence Association of Crane’s Mill of West Caldwell, and a past board member of Temple Beth Shalom of Livingston. He was also a past president of the Livingston Camera Club.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret; his son, Mark of Morristown; his daughter, Judith (Don) Fast of Succasunna; a brother, Morton D. of Blairstown; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Services were held June 21 with arrangements by Ross’ Shalom Chapels, Chatham.
