Howard Katz
Howard Katz, 92, of Scottsdale, Ariz., a longtime New Jersey resident, died Feb. 18, 2014. He was born in Newark and moved to Arizona a few years after his retirement.
Mr. Katz worked as an accountant.
He graduated from Montclair State Teachers College.
A World War II Jewish war veteran, he was a captain and Army Air Corp B-24 Navigator, receiving the Air medal with three Oak Leaf clusters, the Distinguished Flying Cross, and a Presidential Citation.
He acted in over 60 community plays and musical, his favorite role being Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof.
In Arizona he was involved in volunteer and Jewish community activities.
Predeceased by his wife, Muriel (Goldberg), in 2012, he is survived by his daughter, Susan; his son, Michael (Sandra Kurinsky); three granddaughters; and four great-grandchildren.
Services were held Feb. 23 with arrangements by Schoem’s Menorah Chapel, Paramus. Memorial contributions may be made to NJ Y Camps Scholarship Fund, Jewish National Fund, or any local Jewish community services organization.
