Hyman Izraeli
Hyman (Chaim) Izraeli, a longtime resident of West Caldwell, died June 21, 2015. He was born in Tel Aviv in 1927 and immigrated to the United States in 1953.
Mr. Izraeli had a long career in research and development at the Singer Sewing Machine and Thomas & Betts companies and completed his career in energy management at the Picatinny Arsenal. He also taught engineering at New Jersey Institute of Technology and authored numerous patents.
He received a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from University of Illinois and a master of engineering from NJIT.
He served in the Engineering Corps during Israel’s War of Independence.
He was an active member of Congregation Agudath Israel, Caldwell, for over 50 years and attended Sabbath services without fail.
He was an active member of the Caldwell Community Fitness Center. He did electrical work, auto repair, and plumbing and also enjoyed making furniture and stained-glass windows.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Terry; his son, Dan (Christa Horan); his daughter, Ruth (Ben Watson); and four grandchildren.
Services were held June 24 with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston. Memorial contributions may be made to Congregation Agudath Israel or American Jewish World Service.
