Ira Keats

Ira Lawrence Keats of Yardley, Pa., died Feb. 11, 2013. Born in Philadelphia, he was a lifelong resident of the Trenton/Lower Bucks County area.

Mr. Keats joined the family business, Keats Motors in Trenton, where he served as president/chairman until his retirement.

A graduate of The Lawrenceville School, he earned his bachelor’s degree from Brown University and also attended the University of Pennsylvania Law School.

He graduated from the Officer Candidate School of the United States Navy and served in the Navy in Charleston, South Carolina, and Naples, Italy, where he reached the rank of First Lieutenant.

He held leadership positions in many professional and civic organizations, including the New Jersey Automobile Dealers Association, Ford Motor Company Advertising Council, Delaware Valley United Way, Har Sinai Temple, and Jewish Federation of Princeton Mercer Bucks. He was active in American Israel Public Affairs Committee and the Holocaust Genocide Resource Center at Rider University. He was a member of Greenacres Country Club for over 50 years.

Predeceased by his former wife, Joan Lavine Keats, he is survived by his wife, Lois; three daughters, Ellen (Irv Goldstein) of Greenwich, Conn., Laura (George) Wendell of North Miami, Fla., and Susan (Jeff) Cashen of Los Altos, Calif.; two sons, Joseph (Jodi Specter) of Newtown, Pa., and Michael (Andrea) of Bridgewater; three stepchildren, Kathy Keith of Jupiter, Fla., Honey (David) Lewis of Bedford, NH, and Steven Weiss of Arlington, Va.; and 19 grandchildren.

Services were held Feb. 17 with arrangements by Orland’s Ewing Memorial Chapel, Ewing.
