Sima and Javid Hakakian of Morris Township, both natives of Iran, will discuss their “Iranian Odyssey,” on Zoom. It’s a talk about how they crossed paths with history. The West Morris section of the National Council of Jewish Women sponsors the online program, which is free and open to the public, on Tuesday, October 25, at 7 p.m. Debbie Schwartz of Mendham coordinated it.

Both Sima and Javid, who are Jewish, lived in Iran in the 1970s, when the shah was toppled and the Islamic theocracy, under the Ayatollah Khomeini, came to power. Feeling threatened by the Iranian revolution, which started in 1978, Sima went to Israel and then to the United States. Javid, who left Iran just before the revolution, came to the United States with no intention of staying; he worked part time and went to college.

In their talk, the couple will focus on why and how they left Iran and how they managed to start all over again. Preregistration is required; email debra.ellen910@gmail.com.
