Irving Newman
Irving Newman, 94, of Sarasota, Fla., died Nov. 21, 2015. Born and raised in Newark, he had previously lived in Verona, North Caldwell, Roseland, and Long Beach Island prior to retiring to Sarasota in 2008.
Mr. Newman was in the printing/packaging business for 60 years, spending the last 20 years as president of Newman Packaging Co.
He graduated from Weequahic High School, Newark, and from Rutgers-Newark on the G.I. Bill.
He served during World War II as second bombardier on a Flying Fortress B-17.
He was a past president of the Jewish Community Center of Verona, now Temple Beth Ahm, as well as the author of a self-published memoir, Living on House Money.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Beatrice; two sons, Leonard of Los Angeles and Jeffrey of Cedar Knolls; and a granddaughter.
Services were held Nov. 25 with arrangements by J.L. Apter Memorial Chapels, Cedar Grove. Memorial contributions may be made to Tidewell Hospice, Sarasota.
